Tweed Shire Council is putting on three public information sessions this month aimed at improving the community’s understanding of the two main issues related to the shire’s water supply.
A council spokesperson said detailed information would be available at the sessions on the steps council was taking to reduce water consumption through its demand management strategies and the four shortlisted options to increase the Tweed’s water supply.
Council’s natural resources director David Oxenham said the sessions were in response to a request from the Tweed District Water Augmentation Community Working Group, which believed council ‘needed to more clearly explain that reducing water use is the basis of its water supply strategy and provides the foundation for any of the four water supply options currently being looked at’.
‘We’re hoping the information available at these sessions will assist residents or other parties with their submissions on the two key supply and demand strategies currently on exhibition for public comment,’ Mr Oxenham said.
The sessions will be held next Wednesday, February 10, at the South Sea Islander Room, Tweed Heads Civic Centre, Brett Street, Tweed Heads from 2pm to 7pm; Thursday, February 18, at the Canvas and Kettle, Murwillumbah Civic Centre, Tumbulgum Road, Murwillumbah from 2pm-7pm; and Tuesday, February 23, at the Pottsville Environment Centre, Centennial Drive, Pottsville from 2pm to 7pm.
