One of the Tweed’s fastest growing sport clubs, Kingscliff District Football Club, will soon have a new home after outgrowing its old one.
The club, formerly known as Kingscliff District Soccer Club (the Wolves), will begin relocation to new fields at Depot Road, near the entrance to the proposed new township of Kings Forest, next season.
Tweed Shire Council will transform the old tip site on 20 acres into a modern sports ground, using $1.3 million of developer infrastructure contributions.

New club president Peter Gladwin, a community stalwart and former head of the Kingscliff Ratepayers and Progress Association, said the relocation was set to help the club grow much bigger.
‘We’re all quite excited, the fields are at the front of the Kings Forest development, so when people arrive they will drive past our club,’ Peter said.

‘It’s going to really boost our club, we’ve outgrown where we are now at Reg Dalton Oval and are overlapping with other sports for training and match days so it’s become a bit overcrowded.
‘This site has opportunities for training camps because it’s close to accommodation at Casuarina etc. A Korean under-14 team came out last year and stayed there. We’ll be able to host touring teams because of the great geographical location.
‘Our club is growing so fast, already we have 400 kids with teams catering for ages five to 55, and the biggest growth area in our club is women, we have three senior women’s teams this year.
‘Football, or soccer as it was known, has matured quite a bit and is truly the world game, in our club we hear so many different accents, French, Timorese, German, it’s beautiful.

‘Also, having a combined Gold Coast Premier League team called the Tweed Valley Kings made up of our club and the Murwillumbah and Banora Point football clubs gives a pathway for the juniors and raises the standard for our children,’ he said.
Sign on for this season is on next Wednesday, February 10, from 6pm-8pm and on Saturday, February 13, from 4pm-6pm at Reg Dalton Oval. For info call Peter on 02 6674 1483.

article thumbnail Recently I mentioned how I’d seen really big flathead eat little ones on at least three occasions. At first I thought maybe the big ones were protecting the little ones. I now don’t believe this to be the case as several people have phoned me telling me they have seen the same thing. A couple...

article thumbnailI haven’t had a full night sleep now since the beginning of 2009. I’ve been a mother for 15 years so I’m used to the whole death-of-self concept. I’ve been dead now for over a decade. I thought after having a trillion kids that at 42 I’d be such a pro at mothering that if there was ever...
