Pictured: Cass Eager

Phil Jamison and Pat Davern (Grinspoon)
Grinspoon were formed when Pat Davern and Joe Hansen hooked up with Kristian Hopes and Phil Jamieson. After having a few jams at Lismore’s The Gollan Hotel, a few songs were written. Clockwork was the song that unearthed them to the Triple J audience, and ever since, the steady ascension has seen these Lismore lads become national stars. For this one off special appearance, Pat Davern and Phil Jamieson will be performing all their rock/indie hits in a different light. Neverland Bar this Sunday February 7. Located at 23 Mclean St Coolangatta.

Cass Eager and Chase The Sun
Cass Eager’s sound travels the gamut from soul to blues, folk to funk and roots to reggae. Her distinctive pipes and guitar playing have drawn comparisons to everyone from Bonnie Raitt to Jack Johnson, Nina Simone and Ben Harper, with a hint of Janis Joplin always thrown in. Despite these comparisons, ‘soul sister Cass is no pale imitation’ (NDL). On stage, Cass is armed with an acoustic and lap steel guitar, electric ukulele and stompbox. See her with Chase The Sun, February 5 at Soundlounge, Currumbin.

Method
Bill Jacobi and Frank Corby’s band Method will be at the Terranora Tavern this Friday. With the skeletal combo of drums and amped up acoustic guitar, Method weave a mix of roots music, folk and heartland rock and roll to create songs that are honest and down to earth. Bill Jacobi and Frank Corby met 15 years ago in the heart of the Blue Mountains City of Arts 100kms west of Sydney. Collectively they have shared the stage, studio and tour van with the likes of Floyd Vincent, Warumpi Band, Goanna, Stiff Gins, Neil Murray, Shane Howard, Gangagang, The Bondi Cigars, Kevin Connolly (USA), Babalu, Tim Gaze and Dave Debs. Also on Sunday from 5pm, acoustic/singer/songwriter Dave Cavanagh will be performing. Terranora Tavern is at  2-14 Henry Lawson Drive, Terranora. Ph: (07) 5590 5416

Greg Doolan, Matthew Street and Bud Manthey
The Greg Doolan Band will be at the Currumbin RSL on Friday February 5 from 7pm. He has been nurturing his craft over a 25 year period and last year was named ‘Australian Versatile Variety Performer of the Year’ at the prestigious Mo Awards held in Sydney. On Saturday from 12.30pm Matthew Street will perform and then Dan Hannaford from 7pm. Sunday at the RSL, Bud Manthey will play from 12pm. Bud uses an FM Headset microphone and FM guitar units which allows more artistic freedom. ‘With the use of my ‘Loop’ station,’ he says, ‘I can enhance many songs with tasteful lead break solos. The Digitec Vocalist 2 also provides pitch perfect two-piece harmonies on demand.’
Nitestar
Four piece Nitestar will be at the Bilambil Sports Club this Friday February 5. Hear them rock their way through a collection of classic rock borrowed from Zep, Bowie, Sabbath to Crowes, Foos and heaps of stuff in between. See more at www.nitestarband.com

Side Splitting
Comedy
Get ready for another night of side splitting comedy! Mandy Nolan has again provided The Currumbin RSL with a stella line up. Dave Jory, considered one of Australia’s most in demand comedians and who is flying in from Sydney for the event, will headline. So just who is Dave Jory? Well, in 2007, Dave was a finalist in Rove Live’s Golden Nut Competition, as well as being chosen as an Australian finalist for the popular NBC America program, Last Comic Standing, which was broadcast to a large audience worldwide. Dave has appeared on television shows such as The NRL Footy Show, Stand Up Australia, Joker Poker, Last Comic Standing and The Mansion. Dave is regularly on Triple J radio, and along with Scott Dooley, host the very popular drive-time segment I Love This Crowd. ‘It’s where I perform listener’s jokes in a comedy club,’ he says, ‘then play the recordings on-air for discussion.’ He has worked with some great comics over the years, including Weird Al Yankovic, Arj Barker and Paulie Shore. In 2009 Dave went with the Australian Defence Force to the Solomon Islands and Afghanistan, to entertain the troops. Support is by Chris Hague, a simple bloke, who is just plain funny. Mandy will again MC. Thursday February 4 from 6.30pm. $15 members and $18 for non members.
