About Us

The Tweed Shire Echo is a weekly independent newspaper that is published in the Tweed Shire, New South Wales, Australia.

The Echo, as it is also known, was first published on August 28, 2008. It currently prints 20,500 copies weekly, and is the sister paper to The Byron Shire Echo.

The original Byron Shire Echo was founded in 1986 following marijuana raids by the NSW Police in the valleys surrounding Mullumbimby. Many people believed that the police were acting aggressively and illegally, and local TV and print media refused to touch the story.

It was this lack of honest coverage that caused the late Nicholas Shand, pictured left, to start the paper, and it continues to champion social justice causes today under publisher and co-founder David Lovejoy.

Over the last 20 years, The Byron Shire Echo has grown steadily from an A4 layout to the present day A3 tabloid, and currently prints 21 000 copies weekly.

This website is owned and published by Echo Netco Pty Ltd.
