Tyalgum Festival of Classical Music
The 19th annual Tyalgum Festival kicks off on Friday for three days. It has a huge line-up of top notch classical and a smattering of jazz musicians. The program is as follows – for more see www.tyalgumfestival.com.au
Friday September 3:
7pm Tatiana Kolesova, piano, will perform works by Chopin, Ravel and Kapustin.
9pm Jose McLaughlin, guitar/piano and Lisa McLaughlin, jazz diva, will performs ‘seductive and luscious jazz melodies in their personal, romantic and beguiling style.’
Saturday September 4
8am Village Nature Walk with Dr Jean-Marc Hero
9.30am The Young Virtuosi: Heidi Chan, piano, Jagged Rose Trio play Mendelssohn, and Alison McKenzie mezzo-soprano and John Woods, accompanist, perform Saint-Saëns, Previn, Sondheim and Weill/Brecht.
11.30am Tania Frazer, oboe, Gareth Belling, Gregory Massingham, narrator, perform Six Metamorphoses after Ovid Opus 49 for oboe solo. The Merlin Ensemble perform Tchaikovsky.
2pm The Merlin Ensemble performs Mozart, Oboe Quartet in F major, and Brahms, Quintet in G major Opus 111.
4pm The Four Elements performs works by Zelenka, Biber, Bach and Vivaldi.
5.30pm Historical Tyalgum Walk with Julia Gill.
7.30pm The Australia Ensemble from UNSW performs works by Mozart, Turina and Faure.
Sunday September 5
8am Village Nature Walk with Dr Jean-Marc Hero.
8.30am Sunday Morning Service, St John’s Anglican Church.
10am Classic Australian Verse, St John’s Anglican Church.
10am Bach on the Weir, northern end of Carraboi Terrace, Tyalgum.
11.30am Queensland Conservatorium Brass Ensemble performs works by Gabrieli, Byrd, Purcell, Sousato, Dukas, Hazell, Premru, Carmichael, Premru.
12.30pm Picnic and BBQ in the Park Tyalgum Showground: Hot Chilli Drummers, Tweed District Youth Band and the Jazz Kanaries.
2.30pm Camerata of St John’s and Tatiana Kolesova, piano, performs works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Grieg, Lutoslawski, Sculthorpe, Mendelssohn.
